LEVEL 1: TRAINING OUTLINE

Course Overview

The Level 1 Air borne and Structure Borne Ultrasound Inspector's course is a comprehensive two and a half day mix of theory and practical experience.  Working from the Level 1 course guide, trainees are exposed to introductory sound theory and how it is applied to the inspection disciplines demanded by an effective airborne and structure borne ultrasound inspection programme.  The concepts and methods are demonstrated and reinforced by hands-on experiential exercises throughout the course.

Course Objectives

Promote Inspector confidence

Provide a full understanding of Ultrasound technology

Ensure Inspectors meet the standard level of knowledge and expertise

Ensure that the unique and significant contribution of Ultrasound inspection is effectively integrated into Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programmes

What Will You Learn?

Ultrasound principles applied to Predictive Maintenance

Lubrication control using Ultrasound based techniques

How to apply Ultrasound based techniques to predict mechanical failures, including slow speed bearings

Properties of leaks and how to quickly find leaks in any industrial environment

How to identify faulty steam traps, troubleshoot defective hydraulic systems and identify cavitation in pumps

The effects of electrical faults and how to safely detect hidden problems

Who is the Trainer?

Tom Murphy is a Chartered Engineer with a degree in Electroacoustics and 27 years of experience in ultrasound, thermography and vibration measurement. He is the MD of Reliability Team Limited, Manchester, UK who provide consulting services to a wide cross section of industry.  Tom frequently delivers maintenance related training courses around the world, and is a regular contributor to leading magazines and speaker at international conferences.

Learn NEW Inspection Techniques!

Leak Detection

Innovations and improved technology mean new methods for leak detection.  Learn the answers to common questions like, "How can I accurately quantify the true cost of compressed air leaks" or "Can I really quantify a leak based only on the dB level?"

Discover the newest principles for digital inspection and AVM Acoustic Vibration Monitoring.  Get updated on the industry's trend toward sound-based lubrication scheduling and sound-based applications of lubricants. This section will cover predictive maintenance, condition monitoring and troubleshooting on bearings, gears, hydraulic systems and valves, pump cavitation, steam traps and many more.

Electrical Inspections

Ultrasound and Infrared inspections go hand-in-hand when it comes to inspection of high and low voltage electrical systems.  Discover important tips for inspection of switchgear panels and transformers.  Learn to distinguish the sound characteristics of arcing, tracking, and corona discharge.  Study important safety tips for ultrasound inspectors working in high voltage areas.
